How are Navratri colours decided?
The colour of Day 1 depends on the weekday Navratri begins on, and the remaining eight days follow a fixed rotation. Because 2026 starts on a Sunday, Day 1 is orange. That's also why the colours change every year.
The custom of wearing a different colour each day is relatively modern and is especially popular in Maharashtra and Gujarat, where newspapers publish the list every year. It's a joyful way to take part in the festival, not a religious requirement, so wear the colours if they add to your celebration.
Note: Navratri colours follow their own rotation, so they don't always match the everyday weekday colours of Vedic astrology. For example, Day 4 falls on a Wednesday but is royal blue rather than green. If you're curious about the weekday system, see our guide to lucky colours for each day of the week.
Navratri 2026: what to wear each day
You don't need a new traditional outfit for all nine days. A tee, hoodie or shirt in the day's colour lets you join in at work, college or a casual evening, and you can switch to ethnic wear for garba nights.
Day 1 — Sunday, 11 October: Orange
Maa Shailaputri. Orange stands for energy, warmth and enthusiasm, a bright start to the nine nights and the day of Ghatasthapana.
How to wear it: an orange tee with off-white or beige bottoms keeps it festive but easy.
Day 2 — Monday, 12 October: White
Maa Brahmacharini. White represents peace, purity and devotion, the calm focus of the goddess of penance.
How to wear it: a crisp white tee or an open white oversized shirt with light denim is fresh and simple. Our white-based Garba Nights and Raas Mosaic tees are made for this day too.
Day 3 — Tuesday, 13 October: Red
Maa Chandraghanta. Red is the colour of strength, courage and passion, and of the goddess's fearless form.
How to wear it: red is bold, so pair it with black or off-white and keep the rest simple.
Day 4 — Wednesday, 14 October: Royal Blue
Maa Kushmanda. Royal blue signifies richness, calm strength and confidence, honouring the goddess believed to have created the universe with her smile.
How to wear it: royal blue looks sharp with white, grey or black, and it's office-friendly.
Day 5 — Thursday, 15 October: Yellow
Maa Skandamata. Yellow brings happiness, brightness and optimism, reflecting the loving, motherly form of the goddess.
How to wear it: golden and mustard yellows suit most Indian skin tones. Pair them with black, white or denim.
Day 6 — Friday, 16 October: Green
Maa Katyayani. Green symbolises growth, new beginnings and harmony, honouring the warrior form of the goddess.
How to wear it: light green feels fresh by day; forest green works well for evenings.
Day 7 — Saturday, 17 October: Grey
Maa Kalaratri. Grey represents balance, strength and steadiness, honouring the fierce form of the goddess who destroys darkness.
How to wear it: grey is the easiest colour of the nine. Wear it head to toe, or with black.
Day 8 — Sunday, 18 October: Purple
Maa Mahagauri. Purple stands for ambition, spirituality and devotion, honouring the radiant, serene form of the goddess.
How to wear it: a purple oversized tee with black or grey bottoms is a strong, easy look.
Day 9 — Monday, 19 October: Peacock Green
Maa Siddhidatri. Peacock green, a rich blue-green, represents uniqueness, compassion and fulfilment, a fitting close to the nine nights.
How to wear it: look for deep teal, petrol blue or jade. They capture the same jewel tone and pair beautifully with black or off-white.

Tips for wearing Navratri colours every day
- Use neutral bottoms. Black, off-white or grey sweatpants and jeans go with every colour on the list, so one or two pairs cover all nine days.
- Start with a tee. Nine plain tees in the right colours is the simplest way to follow the whole festival.
- Dress for garba nights. Go traditional, or keep it relaxed with a festive print like our Garba Nights or Raas Mosaic oversized tees, which are easy to move and dance in.
- No exact shade? Go close. Mustard for yellow, olive for green or petrol blue for peacock green still carries the spirit of the day.
- Accessories count. A cap, bag or bracelet in the day's colour is enough if you're short on time.
